FAQs/Info

Is a guided bike tour for me? Our tours are for people who enjoy the outdoors, are comfortable riding a bike and want to learn about Atlanta in a fun and active way. We cycle on quiet neighborhood roads as well as city streets with traffic.

Do you allow children or teens on the tours? We allow teens 16 and older to participate in our regularly scheduled tours when they are accompanied by an adult.  We can create customized events and private tours for younger teens. We do not currently offer children’s bikes.

Do you offer different fitness level tours? Yes, we offer three fitness levels of tours to accommodate most anyone interested in a bike tour. They are:
Leisure Tours are for individuals who want less time riding and more time stopping and learning about Atlanta. We travel approximately 5 miles in 3 hours.
High Energy Tours are for the person who leads an active lifestyle and who enjoys mixing fun with exercise! We travel approximately 10 miles in 3 hours.
Super Tours are for the fit person who likes sightseeing on bike, a challenge and is familiar with cycling. We travel approximately 15 miles in 3 hours.

Is it safe to ride on Atlanta city streets? Yes, a controlled group following the rules will be safe. Our guides are trained urban cyclists with plenty of group riding experience and will follow all necessary steps to keep each guest safe. Our team negotiates with traffic, "corks" intersections when necessary and protects the group from the front, side and rear. Participants should be comfortable with the idea of riding alongside traffic in a controlled group, even if they have not experienced this first hand.

Do I need to make a reservation for a bike tour? Yes, reservations are required. Tours sell out early and a limited number of bicycles are available.

What time should I arrive for my tour? At least 20-30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. If you have not ridden a bike for a few years, we recommend you arrive 30 minutes early to practice shifting and braking.

Can I participate if I am new to riding a bike, have never used hand brakes or don’t know how to shift gears? We do not recommend beginner cyclists or individuals who do not know how to use hand brakes or shift mult-gears to participate in group bike tours.  If you have not ridden in years, but know how to operate multi-geared bicycles and hand brakes, we recommend you arrive 30 minutes early to sign in and practice before the group departs. Knowing how to use hand brakes and shift gears must be clearly demonstrated before you can join the group tour. Our sister company, Bicycle Education of Atlanta does offer private and group lessons to get beginners up to speed on operating the latest bicycle technology.  Please let us know if we can help you prepare for a bike tour in the future.

Can I participate if I am in poor health or lead an inactive lifestyle? If you are in poor health or lead a sedentary lifestyle, we do not recommend a bike tour. Even something as minor as a bad cold can impact your ability to complete the tour. Please join us when you are stronger and healthier!

What should I wear, what do I need to bring and what should I leave behind? We provide a “comfort” bike, a helmet and a bottle of water. We recommend you wear seasonally appropriate clothing and closed toe shoes (sneakers are best). Although athletic clothing is not required, please refrain from wearing pants/jeans that have flared legs. Bring your camera and an extra water or energy drink if you typically drink a lot of fluid when you exercise.

We do not have lockers for personal belongings, so leave valuables in your car or at the hotel.

Will there be places to stop for a bathroom break along the way? Yes. We stop at a clean public restroom about two-thirds of the way through the bike tour. There are also options along the way if there are emergencies.

Do we stop to eat along the way? When we stop for a restroom break, we’ll have a few minutes for you to purchase a quick snack if necessary. It’s best to eat about 45 minutes to an hour before the tour to ensure you have enough energy for the ride.

What if the weather is bad? Bicycle Tours of Atlanta (BTA) may cancel a tour due to severe weather conditions. However, severe weather conditions must directly impact the scheduled route for BTA to cancel a tour. Please note: Atlanta is known for having sunny skies and thunderstorms occur within a short distance from the other. Please call to confirm your tour has been cancelled. Tours will still run in light rain or drizzle. Payment for cancelled tours due to inclement weather can be refunded, credited for a future date or fully transferred to another person.

What if I need to change or cancel my reservation? Reservations may be rescheduled or cancelled with a 48 hour notice. Cancellations requested with less than 48 hours notice will be issued a full credit which is fully transferable and never expires.
