“I thought of that while riding my bike”... – Albert Einstein
Robyn Elliott, Owner—Bicycle Tours of Atlanta
Wheeling in the birth of great ideas is a natural for the bicycle! For Einstein, it was the “Theory of Relativity”. For me, it was Bicycle Tours of Atlanta. While I was showing off Atlanta to a couple of friends visiting in the Spring of 2008, it hit me... “THIS IS WHAT I’LL DO!”
Since early 2008, while we all watched the residential construction industry come to a slow pace and then a complete halt, I knew I had to do something! My days as a new construction inspector were numbered and it was finally time for me to pursue a passion. From the time I was a kid to a teen and all the way through my adult life, I’ve had a strong relationship with the bicycle.
So, I decided to turn to my first and longest love for inspiration and create a way to make living. I have always enjoyed showing off my home town of Atlanta and knew that the time had come for this southern city to have her very own bike touring company!
I want to invite you to join me. Seeing Atlanta’s intown neighborhoods, downtown and midtown on a bike will be the highlight of your Atlanta adventure. I’m sure you’ll agree with President John F. Kennedy when he said, “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride”. Combine that with this great city and you’ll be in cycling heaven! Hope to see you soon!
Mike Gerke and Pam Aerts
Weʼve been cycling together since meeting at a Bayshore Bicycle Club meeting in 1989. At that time, Mike was the club president of a mostly social cycling group. One of his duties as president was to introduce himself to new members. And as they say....the rest is history! We married in 1991 and had a bicycle procession of 80 friends and family to our reception.
We were introduced to bicycle education about 15 years ago and have been instructing people of all ages and abilities on the joys of getting back on their two-wheeler or three- wheeler ever since. During the past 25 years we have adopted many forms of cycling and have started three very successful business based off of the bicycle.
We look forward to sharing the joy and exhilaration of “being a kid again” while propelling yourself through your world on one of the most noblest inventions. You CAN do it.......ByBicycles
We can show you how.
Officer Eugene Johnson
We are extremely fortunate to have Officer Johnson, an 18 year veteran of the Atlanta Police Force as a part on our team at BTA. Eugene has been training bicycle teams for local, military and federal police as well as fire personnel from all over the state of Georgia since 2002. He has also traveled throughout the US as a strong competitor in the law enforcement Olympics. When he’s not keeping our city streets safe, or consulting with us on our routes for safe touring or sweeping for our tours, he’s spending time with his lovely wife, Adair, teaching, watching and cheering for their four boys at sporting events! Thanks Eugene for all you do!
Blake Scott
Fireman, Master Bicycle Mechanic and Business Manager of Silver Comet Depot has been a life saver and is one of our magnificent Sweepers! His presence on our bike tours is one of the main reasons our guest report such a strong sense of security while we negotiate through the Atlanta traffic. The person pulling up the rear (the Sweeper) is the bodyguard for a bike tour and has a huge responsibility. In this regard, Blake has set the bar very high! Blake also provided a great deal of support and coaching in the early stages and development of BTA!
